POST TRAUMATIC CARE
It is my distinct honour and privilege to welcome you to the International Journal of Guidance and Counseling.
International Journal of Guidance and Counseling (IJGC) is a peer-reviewed, open access journal that provides rapid publication (monthly) of articles in all areas of Guidance and Counseling and related disciplines. The objective of this journal is to provide a veritable platform for scientists and researchers all over the world to promote, share, and discuss a variety of innovative ideas and developments in all aspects of Guidance and Counseling.
Nowadays psychological care has been added to the list of basic needs for some people. According to the NICE guideline, treatment is necessary when, in the aftermath of trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, suicidality, addiction, medically unexplained physical symptoms, or dissociative disorders arise. The risk of developing post-traumatic stress disorder after trauma is 8-13% for men and 20-30% for women, 5 with a 12 month prevalence of 1.3% to 3.9%, 6 creating a huge burden on society.
NICE recommends not using drugs as first line treatment. The most effective treatment for resetting the fear system is cognitive behaviour therapy. Also, from an evolutionary viewpoint one can see how “the gift of nature” of remembering and learning from danger may restrict what is attainable in treating post-traumatic stress disorder. We cannot delete the memory of trauma.
